Tokio Hotel Fans

Not all Tokio Hotel fans are crazy and brainless!
You should think twice before accepting the bias on Tokio Hotel fans you read on sites, magazines and newspapers, where they present Tokio Hotel’s fans as crazy, hysterical people who live their passion in one collective mad craze, avoiding logic. Of course you can’t ask the youngest fans, usually not even in high school, to have the wisdom of Michael Jackson’s fans, who are from another generation and have proved though the years that they are patient, vaccinated against sordid press campaigns, and their musical ears are the main way they judge singers. It is true that we are sometimes “ashamed” for them when we see here and there, Tokio Hotel fans who find nothing better to do than insult the press and other people who don’t share their passion 100%.
But there is also another category of Tokio Hotel fans, intelligent and thoughtful, not necessarily older than the others. A poet once said, “Years change nothing, when one is an idiot, one stays an idiot…”
Personally I really like Tokio Hotel, without having them as my idols. It is with great pleasure that I quote here the comments from Clara and Chris, so that more readers can see:
Clara: “I find it ridiculous, all these petitions which just put pressure on TH, in order for them to come to such and such a city and all the merchandising…What makes them different is their music, their lyrics, their sound, their state of mind (cool, and yet they’re pros at messing around). But also what makes me think that they’re out of the norm and interesting is because they sing in German! This gives a totally different sound and it feels good to finally hear something different. Bill’s voice in this language is so soft to the ear in their ballads and so energetic in rock, it’s simply rare…”
Chris: “I’m a big Tokio Hotel fan, but I think it’s sad when people aren’t open to other bands and give them a hard time when they perform before TH (Note: He’s referring to the Parc des Princes concert, when a band played the first part of the evening). They’re worthy of performing in front of Tokio Hotel’s public, deemed difficult and quite immature. On top of it BP Zoom was perfect; their redo of ACDC was amazing! Youth will have to evolve. They aren’t teens anymore, but young adults.”

Interview and Other News

They’re about to conquer the world, and yesterday Tokio Hotel delivered in Rome in front of 18,000 fans. We met up with the four before the concert.

The young Italian girls have fluently prepared the most important German vocabulary...

Girl: “Bill, I love you!”

...More or less successfully. They’ve presumably fallen in love. The young band knows we’re meeting them backstage shortly before they appear. The chance to get close is completely welcomed, mainly by Tom.

Tom: “The other three boys haven’t pulled anything in any country we’ve been to, so they haven’t enjoyed or had anything to do with girls in any countries. I’ve already done so around the world, because you’re restricting yourself otherwise. Actually, you have to say, I can pull very well everywhere in the world.”

Worldwide success, and not only with women either. Whether it’s Paris in March, LA in May, or Rome in front of 18,000 fans yesterday, the pictures show that the Magdeburgers’ pulling power is incredible. But meanwhile, their bank account must truly be fit to burst.

Bill: “We’re still far from being millionaires, and I believe that we really make money for record companies, otherwise to be seriously rich we would really have to be footballers.”

So they’re not millionaires just yet. Nevertheless, they’re already living the typical jet set lifestyle. For example, they lose track of where they’re located in the world.

Bill: “I don’t often know, usually I’m just sitting there and forget it.”

Tom: “Well, I personally always like that. I ask the girls with whom I’m in bed in the morning where I exactly am and they know most of the time - “Where do you actually come from?” - “I’m just in France” - “OK, I see.””

Whether one of these ladies was courteous with this information this morning will certainly be explained by Tom next time.

Facebook:

Could you ever use Bill Kaulitz as an insult?! Well, according to Bethany, one of our readers:

"Basically, I was adding the 'Hug Me' application to my facebook and I wanted to do something horrible to someone so I clicked on the Naughty link and I found that I could throw Bill Kaulitz at someone. Obviously I didn't do that because that's just mean!!! Well it wouldn't be so much if someone threw him at me! :]"

Tragidy Strikes in Portugal:

Great Tokio Hotel fans, Ana Isabel and Vera, both 14 years old, didn't rest until they convinced Vera's parents to go to Lisbon to see the german band. On the way home, on monday at 4:00 o'3lock in the morning, what had been a great day of partying for the young girls, ended up in a tragedy with Ana's death, on A4, in Valongo.

Ana Isabel Soares, 14 years old, died instatly after the car that she was in with other 4 people hit a tree. The driver, António Babe, 53 years old, fell asleep and after leaving the high way, hit a tree. The girl suffered a cardiorespiratory stop and didn't resist.

She emigrated two years ago with her parents to Estrasburg, France, Ana had came to Portugal for a week to visit her family, especially Vera. "She never wanted to go to to France, she missed her friend", her aunt said to the CM. Ana left her house saturday in direction of Lisbon. She caught a ride with António and Maria Manuela, Vera's parents and Ruben and her dream was fulfilled right after seeing the concert. Yesterday, at 4:00, she lost her life. The other minors survived with light injures. Vera's parents are in S. João's Hospital, with great heath care.

Our Deepest sympathies go to Ana's friends and Family and we wish Vera and Her Parents a Speedy Recovery

Geneva security

Some twenty admirers of the group Tokio Hotel have landed in Geneva Monday already. They set up their tents on the concrete in front of the Arena which must occur Saturday before 10 000 people. “These girls come from the south of France, Germany or German-speaking Switzerland,” said Michael Drieberg Monday, organizer of the concert. “We expect the arrival of other fans in the coming days.”

The organizer has appointed a person to monitor the area overnight to ensure the safety of these teenagers. During the day, they can take advantage of public toilets and shopping malls located nearby.

Scheduled for March 21 at the Arena, then postponed scheduled July 12 at the Stade de Geneva and then transferred again to the Arena, the concert will attract 10,000 Tokio Hotel fans. Organizers estimate that 250 ticket holders invalid attempt to force entry.

“We will be intransigent,” warns Drieberg.

The staff responsible for security will be the largest ever raised in this room. “There will be Saturday 200 people assigned to this task, plus a score of nurses and Samaritans. Three ambulances are also on the spot. ”

Rome Articles and Translations

Translation 1 (Italian)

Rome (July 7) Yesterday, Tokio Hotel worked between sound checks, TV interviews and seeing the winners of the “meet & greet.” They didn’t see much of Rome, partly because at the Bernini Hotel in Piazza Barberini, in which they rented an entire floor, was besieged by 500 fans, whose clutches were hard to escape from. Some of them, who had arrived from Germany, had spent 280 euros just to rent a room. They then launched a pursuit of the four boys from Magdeburg, all the way till the Capannelle Hippodrome, where the band played live at 21:30.

The scene is one from the 80s, like it was for Duran Duran: troops of clones, a network of gloves and socks, studs and piercings, giant posters; the adrenaline had accumulated in March, when the concert was planned but then canceled due to the singer’s health problems. Minors in delirium, hundreds of which had spent the night outside the hippodrome. Once inside, the lawn was divided in half: parents behind, the children in front. A large fraction had invaded the place for guests and the press (the security wasn’t able to stop it) and the stage was transformed into a stuffed-animal and bra graveyard.

The evening opened with fireworks. The Kaulitz brothers have made their triumphant entrance with glasses to “Break Away.” Bill in a red T-shirt, leather jacket, and mane; Tom with dreadlocks and cap, long white T-shirt down to his knees. Followed then by “Final Day,” “1000 Oceans,” “Live Every Second,” “Love is Dead,” and then the first German song “Wir sterben niemals aus” (there had been a petition to sing the songs in their original language, not in English) and “Scream.” On “Black” high flames arose, while a projection of a video of the band goes on.
….(Can’t understand the rest)

After “Geh” came “Don’t Jump.” All hands were raised on “Raise Your Hands.” The riot happened during the award-winning “Monsoon;” the stage was enlarged and some people went on it.

Etc…

Tokio Hotel, 15,000 fans partying in Rome

A big celebration yesterday in the Italian capital, the German band enchanted the public with their famous songs.

Rome, 7 July – The Capannelle arena was colored with fireworks, the fans are impatient and scream with joy, we must be talking about Tokio Hotel. The concert in Rome yesterday was a big success, around 15,000 people attended and supported the German band. Hordes of girls, and some rare boys invaded the hall. The average age, without counting the parents, must be around 17. The teens, before the concert, had invaded the tribune which was reserved for the guests, hoping to retrieve a smile from their idols.

Tokio Hotel had spent the whole day in interviews and doing the sound check. The rest of the day was spent in their hotel, Bernini in Barberini, which was assaulted by 500 fans…some of them had come directly from Germany and paid almost 300 euros to have a room.

Tokio Hotel became famous during 2005 with their hit “Durch den Monsun,” which was a success in Germany, Poland, Austria, and Czech Republic, and then the rest of Europe. The single entered 15th place in the top 50 singles’ sales in less than 7 days. That same year in September, they released their first album, “Schrei.”

(Translation 3)

Tokio Hotel at Rome, the fans’ parents protest

Last night, Sunday 7th of July, the well-awaited concert took place in Rome; the German rock band had cancelled the concert in March due to Bill’s health problems.
15,000 tickets were sold, but for the parents of the youngest fans, the hygiene and other conditions in which their children found themselves in weren’t very satisfying. “We arrived yesterday from Volterra (an Italian city) and we slept under tents,” said one father. “At 9, my daughter went in line. The organizers gave water to everyone: but the children waited there, without a drink. When they were able to have a gulp, it was scalding hot. They need to be more careful, they have to take care of some young ones (everyone younger than 18).”
“This is a hippodrome; I’m convinced horses are better treated than our children.” Declared one mother, while another one tells us about the entrance “It’s absurd, the tickets from March were made in sectors, which means there were several entrances, but now there’s only one! Today, in order to help those who slept here, the organizers gave numbers to guarantee priority to each of them, but that system didn’t work.”
The organizers of the concert defend themselves: “Already on Friday night there were teens who slept outsides.” Someone in charge said, “we were obliged to open the hall doors (for the toilets) and set up emergency toilets, and call people to give out 20,000 bottles of water. We did all we could.”

A summary of another article:

Rome, July 7
Disorder among the public and security guards, several girls were injured (not too serious) in the “breakthrough” of some barriers, incidents of abuse against parents and some children by police agents, many cases of illness caused by the long waiting in the sun for the opening of the gates, thousands of people without tickets…
That’s the Tokio Hotel concert, a German boy band, who’s here for the first time in Rome after the cancellation of the March 25 date.
The event, from the show’s point of view, was a success, but in terms of organization, the structure and police, was a failure. Already three days before the concert, there had been signs, but the difficulties which were going to be met were underestimated. Outside the hippodrome, dozens of campers with whole families were there, supporting the passion of their children in order to win a place in the front rows.
Military personnel watered the masses with water cannons. Countermeasures were not enough to prevent many common illnesses in the heat: ambulances had intervened in dozens of cases. Shortly before 17:00, some people broke down barriers (injuries and fractures were reported in the security personnel) and crowds of girls were injured mildly.
In some cases, in a vain attempt to bring order, some police officers produced some regrettable incidents of mistreatment against adults and even children. “We had numbered tickets,” tells Silvia 13, in tears. “the organization had said we could use them for the concert, even though they wouldn’t secure seats. Instead we’re treated like beasts, and at one point, an agent allowed us to get on one of the staircases, but then another arrived at the top and blocked us. A policeman has pushed my father, and my friend Beatrice fell.”
When it was no long possible to restrain the flow of fans waiting to enter, following the breakthrough of the barriers, several thousand spectators managed to pass without any ticket controls. According to internal organization sources, approximately 7,000 people entered without purchasing any type of ticket. The organizers had underestimated the impact of Tokio Hotel’s public: predominantly between 12 and 16 years, their behavior (as some of the security noted) is different and less manageable than those of adult audiences.
The area, in fact, has no separate entrances, and is completely outdoors and difficult to control….

Tokio Hotel In 'The Guardian'

New band of the day:

Tokio Hotel

Who's the cat that won't cop out when there are new bands all about? Paul Lester. And today, he introduces a puppydog Pantera, a tweenybop Sepultura, a MiniPops Metallica...

Monday May 21, 2007
guardian.co.uk

Tokio Hotel... the puppydog Pantera

Hometown: Magdeburg, Germany.
The line-up: Bill Kaulitz(vocals, guitar), Tom Kaulitz(guitar), Georg Listing (bass), Gustav Schäfer (drums).

The background: Germany's Tokio Hotel, the hard-rock Hanson, have such an enthusiastic female following across Europe that on a recent visit to France the screams from the young ladies as the band left their hotel (see here) blew the dials on the local Richter Scale, a fact verifiable by Sylvie, 13, a local schoolgir. "Mon dieu!" she cried as she caught sight of one of the depressingly cute pop-metal band as he attempted to reach a waiting limo. "Zis screaming, it will blow ze local Richter Scale."

We're not saying Tokio Hotel are good-looking, but even the most ferociously heterosexual male staff up here at Guardian Unlimited Music have been found whispering, in hushed, awed tones, "Mmm, yummy, mummy" when confronted by images of Germany's handsomest export. Identical twins Bill and Tom Kaulitz are especially delicious. Bill is the one with the piercings, tattoos and belief in "freedom without boundaries", while Tom has the gorgeous mousey blond frightwig (sigh). The bassist and drummer are bowsers in comparison, but we'll let that pass because they're only, you know, the rhythm section.

We interrupt this swoonfest for a little history. Tokio Hotel, named after the great Japanese city and the great alternative to houses, formed in 2001, when the four players were amoeba - okay, they were 11 and a half, but still pretty young. They were called Devilish, but for some reason (maybe because people - call people unfashionable - felt uncomfortable with the idea of a death-metal band with a Satanic name) they didn't happen, commercially speaking, until they became Tokio Hotel. After a flurry of hit singles, the band achieved total domination and submission of the European mainland, with something approximating lebensraum being accomplished in Germany itself, including numerous Number 1 singles, tours played to over 400,000 willing sinners, various MTV Europe statuettes and more than 2.5 million units shifted from shops to homes.

The music? Oh, that. Not bad. Generic pop-metal, innit, with an impressive balance between power and melody. But, ooh, those cheekbones! Have those boys scrubbed and sent to our tent.

The buzz: "Tokio Hotel are the sexxx!!!"

The truth: They're the puppydog Pantera, the tweenybop Sepultura, the MiniPops Metallica.

Most likely to: Make you faint with delight. You girls, too.

Least likely to: Be taken seriously by the metal press until they get a bit older and uglier.

File next to: Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Hanson.
